The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of objects connected through the Internet. This includes everything from cell phones, washing machines, lamps, wearable devices and almost anything you can think of. These objects have embedded intelligence to sense their surroundings and exchange information over Internet. According to the analyst firm Gartner, there will be 26 billion connected devices by 2020. There are others who estimate this number to be much higher, over 100 billion. The IoT is a giant network of connected things. That's way it is accepted as the next revolution in the field of technology.

The IoT enables us to connect everyday devices to the Internet. This connectivity provides more data collected from more places. This increase in data can be used to increase efficiency, safety and security. The collection of data from everyday devices will allow consumers, businesses and even entire cities to run more efficiently. It’s not hard to see how and why the IoT is such a hot topic today, it certainly opens the door to a lot of opportunities.
